Monitor your printers automatically.

The Printer Doctor's free printer app puts all of your printers on one screen, and ordering toner takes a single click. The app runs perfectly well if you type your printers in yourself. Our free printer monitoring software is what completes the circle: install it once and your printers appear in the app on their own, with live toner levels, page counts and current alerts, and nothing to key in or keep up to date.

There is no charge for the software or the app, and both are available to offices anywhere in North America.

What you gain from printer monitoring

No more shelf of spare toner. You are alerted when a printer needs supplies, so you can stop keeping inventory.

Ordering without part numbers. The app curates the cartridges that fit each printer and points to the least expensive one. Pick the printer, confirm where it is, and click order.

Orders built for you. What is needed, and for which printer, is worked out automatically.

A clear view of usage. See which printers carry the load and which ones sit idle.

Cost per page, side by side. Expensive printers stand out from the economical ones.

Parts flagged in time. Know when a part is due to be changed, before it stops a printer.

Smarter repairs. The errors a printer has reported give real insight, which keeps repairs cost-effective.

Repair or replace, upgrade or downgrade. Decide with real numbers which printers to keep, which to replace, and which to move up or down a size.

One office or 1,000 locations. Everything is handled automatically, whatever the size.

Is it safe? Yes.

Printers only. The software reads what each printer reports about itself: its name and location, make and model, serial number, network address, page counts, toner levels and status alerts such as a paper jam.

Never your documents. It does not see what you print, and no personal information is read or sent.

No way in. Every connection is started by the software itself, the way your computer sends an email. Nothing outside your office can connect in through it.

Encrypted in transit. The information travels over a secured connection, the same protection used for online banking.

Getting set up

1. Open the instructions. A short PDF covers choosing a computer, installing and activating.

2. Install the software. It needs Windows 7 or later, or Windows Server 2008 or later, and about 20 MB of disk space. On your computer it appears under the name ICE.

3. Activate it. Enter the activation code we sent you. If you have not been given an activation code, please call us at 613.455.6388 or send us a request for one.

The instructions include the download link as well, so you can start from either one.

Common questions about our printer monitoring software

What does the printer monitoring software cost? Nothing. The monitoring software is free, and so is the printer app it feeds.

Can I use the printer app without installing anything? Yes. Add your printers to the app by hand and you can still order toner easily. Installing the monitoring software is the upgrade: your printers then appear on their own and the information stays live.

Is it only for Ottawa? No. It is available anywhere in North America, for a single office or for many locations.

Will my IT team need to open the firewall? In most offices, no. The software speaks to your printers inside your own network only, and it sends its information out the way a browser reaches a secure website. No incoming ports are opened.

Does it put a load on the network? No. Each printer reports a small amount of information, and a scan is over quickly.
